During these unprecedented times, stress is at an all-time high so is depression, and anxiety. As a result, it has elevated overall Mental Health. Simply putting food on the table for some is a challenge or being so overworked that taking a break is near to impossible. The connections between mental health, nutrition and self-care or physical activity is so important yet overlooked.  

Think about this. Your brain is always on 24/7 even while you sleep, it takes care of our senses, our heartbeat, movement. As a result, your brain requires fuel to function. This fuel is your nutrition but it’s not just about any nutrition it’s about quality nutrition. Multiple studies have found the correlation between a diet high in refined sugars is concerning and causes impaired brain function and mood disorders such as depression. 

Physical activity like food is fuel and it is equally as important. It’s as simple as walking, running, going on a hike, or bike ride, doing yoga, boxing, resistance training and so on is imperative. Studies show that those who exercise, the number of poor mental health days drop by more than 40% (3.5 per month is the average recorded). Other benefits are that it will prevents depression and anxiety disorders, reduce day-to-day stress, reduce the risk of cognitive decline, boost academic performance, reduces fatigue, improve sleep quality, It boost self-esteem, (key for good mental health) and it aids in the treatment of eating disorders, and so on
